Young Sports Leaders

The Young Sports Leader Award is a programme of leadership training for young people between the ages of 9 and 13 that promotes and supports them working with younger children, teaching leadership skills through a whole range of games and activities. The Award focuses on specific skills such as giving instructions, the organisation of people and equipment and the use of space; whilst doing this through a practical approach to teaching. This project aims to empower our young people, by encouraging them to take responsibility and develop leadership skills. It will encourage cooperation and the development of moral and social skills, whilst promoting integration, with the opportunity for older children to work with younger children.

In March, Year 4 and 5 took part in virtual training with Northamptonshire Sport. The session involved a combination of theory and practical activities to develop them as our Young Sports Leaders. The children learnt about the skills to be a good leader then completed activities to develop these skills. Finally, the Year 4 and 5 children created games cards to distribute to the school and support others in their knowledge of games to play outside.
